It swirls out in the same way it swirls in, whether you're in Queensland or Queen's Land.

I think the whole coriolis force affecting drains thing is a myth. Local forces such as the shape of the drain, or the relative positioning of the incoming water should have a much greater effect.

The water is swirling both ways simultaneously until you observe it, at which point it will pick one direction at random.

That is, unless you throw Mr. Schrodinger's cat in there while flushing, in which case the cat will get a good scrubbing before he jumps out no matter which way the water goes.
